UNDISCOVERED EASTERN COLOMBIA: birding secrets of the white sands of Inirida

As we approached Puerto Inirida from the air, we could see the sinuous course of the Vichada and Inirida rivers, frequently edged by oxbow lakes and embedded in an extensive forest that seemed uniform from the air. In the days to come we would realize that such uniformity was an optical illusion, and that the word “microhabitat” plays an important role in finding birds in this complex biome.
