Trinidad & Tobago 2010

Share

This time we were astonished to enjoy 13 species of birds of prey in a single day, and 13 species of hummingbirds for the whole trip! In Little Tobago and well camouflaged White-tailed Nightjar was roosting next to the trail while tanagers and honeycreepers were enjoyed at the feeders of Asa Wright. An interesting feature of this year was the presence of the weather pattern named El Niño, bringing a severe drought on northern South America. While forest birds were seen actively searching for a small berry, a fruiting tree or a stream with dripping water, birds inhabiting grassland had to deal with the extensive fires in fields and grasslands.
