BRAZIL: Pantanal Safari into the heart of jaguarland

Cuiabá bustling traffic and noisy streets were left behind as we headed south to the town of Poconé. Soon after, it seemed that we had travelled to the past, and we were heading to the time when cattle ranching dominated much of the landscape of the state of Mato Grosso. The dirt road, the long fences, borrow pits at sides of the road and patches of dry forest seemed to us as if we were witnessing the life of the early Brazilian Pantaneiro (the local cowboys) that built a culture surrounded by magical wildlife, brightly colored sunrises and fiery sunsets. Welcome to the Pantanal!
