A BIRDING ADVENTURE IN THE LLANOS OF COLOMBIA: Juan Solito Lodge, Reserva Casanare & Hato La Aurora (Includes a full day near Bogota)

Our full day in Bogota started in a rather different way compared with previous years. This time we had changed our visit to Chingaza national park to a contiguous paramo, to the Observatorio de Aves Los Andes. Let by the one-and-only Freddy, we appreciated a gem of the upper montane forest, the Andean Potoo. Just to give you some context, to find this bird, It took Mr Freddy a whole year of search and once found we discovered that was nesting! What an experience and a way to start this tour in wonderful Colombia. Along with the mysterious Potoo, we also nailed Black-billed Mountain-Toucan, Brown-breasted Parakeet, Golden-fronted Redstart, two species of flower piercers and another star for the morning, the Muisca Antpitta (a taxonomic split from Rufous Antpitta).
